Now nearing a decade in full-time ministry, Coffey still identifies with youth and what they go through on a personal and intimate level, allowing him to speak to them with an authenticity and sincerity that they respond to. At the same time, his experience as both a Youth Minister and two years spent as a Church Pastor give him a unique perspective and ability to speak just as directly and effectively to congregations and pastors, as well.
Although Coffey openly admits that youth ministry is where his passion lies, he also acknowledges that ultimately, “Young people are just looking for someone to listen, like anyone. Pastors are often that ear (to listen) and the truth is, everyone has pain, has struggles. I want to be that ear for everyone and to be there for pastors as well.”
Ultimately, that’s the message that Coffey conveys to everyone: from teens to adults, the unchurched to the weekly congregation. Even if, as Coffey once felt, they think “You can’t be calling me to this - You don’t know my reputation or what I’ve done,” that is by far not the case. All that is needed is to meet with and experience Christ first hand.
“I want to tell people the same thing Philip told Nathaniel – I want to be that Philip,” Coffey shares sincerely. “Come and see – and once you see, you’ll never be the same.”
After a decade in ministry as an evangelist, a youth minister and a pastor, Coffey has continually seen lives transformed. As an evangelist, he’s seen thousands come to Christ and met him in a personal way as he’s traveled extensively up in the East and Midwest, even traveling annually to the Caribbean.
Now, with a new avenue opening up with music and an ever growing desire to share Christ with even more people, Coffey’s ministry continues to grow as he opens his eyes to any opportunity. Whether speaking to a small congregation, leading a revival or youth rally, or being included as a speaker on tour, James Coffey is ready and willing to go. And just as Philip told Nathaniel, Coffey’s message is “Come and see.”
